The Rolt Millennium Green is a community space enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. With far reaching views across to Melbury Hill, a mix of seating perfect for quiet contemplation or family picnics, and plenty of green space and interesting planting, it's a much loved spot. During the year, additional planting has been added to create a wildflower meadow, and we have had the privilege of installing a new customer-designed memorial bench, thanks to a generous donation. The green has also been recognised in the 2024 Britain in Bloom South & South East Awards, as part of the 'Level 5 – Outstanding Neighbourhood Award' for St James.
Can you spare a few hours a month?
The green is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, and as we look to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2025, we would like to welcome and encourage new volunteers to join us. To help us find the best way to keep the space looking lovely, we'd like to know how you could help. We'll provide all equipment, we just need your enthusiasm!

About the Millennium Green
The Rolt Millennium Green was brought to life as part of the millennium celebrations. Together, a team of local volunteers helped to design and develop a beautiful shared space in the heart of St James, Shaftesbury, to be enjoyed by the community and visitors. We're delighted to be recognised by the Dorset Wildlife Trust as a Wildlife Friendly Garden. Find out how to get involved in helping us maintain the green here. |
How to find us
The Rolt Millennium Green is located at the bottom of Shaftesbury, along St James Street. Walk down Gold Hill, and turn right. Follow the road for about 1/4 mile, and you'll see the green on your left, just after Ratcliff's Garden. |
